Six months ago, I bought a 2005 Black VDP with 102k. It looks beautiful to me. Well, admittedly, every time I open the boot, a stain in the rug smacks me. I’ve failed to come up with any stain removing technique or substance that had the least bit of success. I’m at the point of looking for an appropriate dye and/or properly sized rubber mat. I could use some ideas about where to get the right dye and any cautions you might have about its use. And, too, any ideas on who sells VDP-fitting mat that is made a proper size, rather than the mats where scissors are required. Thank you for the help.

Have you tried waterless hand cleaner? The same stuff you take paint & grease off your hands with. The cheap one wthout any abrasive pumice in it. I use "chip" hog bristle brushes and/or the small round brushes sold for applying shoe polish.
As to dye? Bound to get an uneven result. FIRST... you have to ascertain what the OEM material was! THEN find dyestuff chemistry that works well with it. Most of those are done in speciality facilities because their chemistry is NOT "DIY end-luser friendly" at room temperature anyway.
Might cut a stencil of Jaguar paw-prints or Jaguar fur coat pattern and ADD stains as camouflage?
Personally, I'd cut new and use a classier / more practical // BOTH....material than the fac'try did.
Not as hard as DIY carpeting a 5-bedroom residence.

Whoa! I had not considered either of those options. Thank you!
I had a similar problem with my car when I got it. No one ever sees it and I could have got a mat but it drove me nuts. I had to search a bit to find a nice replacement part because (come to find out) tow companies and junkyards frequently throw all the loose parts from a crashed car into the trunk thus ruining the carpet. The good news is that AFIK, every X-350 XJ-8 imported to US has the same color and size of trunk lining parts.

Good Luck

I'm not fussed about colour match. I'm OK with the condition, cleanliness of the 'verticals' at sides.
What I NEED - and others might wish to consider - is to add a few extra 'modest strength' tie-down points to better control partial luggage loadings .... and even groceries & other store-bought goods that want to slide or bounce about.
That means it is probably wise to fab a new cover for the spare & battery compartment. Not just re-cover it.
It could be plywood, OEM style.
But THAT part is flat, not complex curved .. sooooo it could as easily be executed in..
G10 laminate. Honeycomb shiney-wood (AKA "Aluminium"), or even honeycomb Carbon fiber...
Made as two-piece, say 80/20, or even THREE piece?.. it could allow access to the battery terminals.. and/or repair tools.. without having to unload EVERYTHING in the boot?
[QUOTE=drmarv;2782541]Hi,

When I bought my 2005 VDP, I had the same problem. I was patient and waited until I found on on ebay. I looked everywhere. Never buy one from a a Jag dealer, if they have one. It will cost more than the car. I found a used one on ebay that was in good condition and bought it. If you buy one from a custom mat shop, it will not match the othe carpet in your trunk. Find a used Jag parts place online. Someone will have one to match.
