Default Wrong Headlights? Suspension light on dash? Suspension problems?

2004 Jaguar XJ8. My car was in a front end accident and everything has been repaired but now I have a suspension code that keeps popping up on my dash so I took it to my Jaguar mechanic. We scanned the car and found that I'm not receiving communication between the headlights and the airbag suspension modules. I checked out my headlights and I have only 6 pin plug that's plugging into my car that requires 9 pin? I'm missing out on 3 pins I believe. Do I have the correct headlights? I also believe I should have auto leveling headlights which I don't. Please Help!?

YOu might need to check with Jaguar what was in the build for your car, quoting the VIN. It sounds like not everything has been replaced like-for-like.

Thank you for the response. Tomorrow I'm going to take my front bumper off and get my headlights out to see what's going on a bit more. Maybe the headlight that I purchased are missing the control computer? There's only two different types of headlights for my car. There's zenon and halogen. I have the correct headlights I believe just not sure whats going on with them...? sigh

i have a cousin that had his HID lights replaced due to cracking on the sides. when it rained or he washed his car the moisture was killing his bulbs. when he installed new headlights he had suspension fault reading. he noticed it happened after he put the new headlights in, he took them out put his old ones back in the problem went away. his jag dealer told him that they no longer stocked the self adjusting HID assembly because jag found them not to be necessary. he either needed to buy some salvage lights or have jag do a update to his car for the new headlight assembly. i dont know if that meant a software update or swap his headlight harness to the new one.

As I understand it, there are actually three types of headlight on the X350.

Halogen, without automatic levelling
Xenon, with automatic levelling (early models)
Bi-Xenon, with automatic levelling (later models)

The Xenon/Bi-Xenon changeover was around 2004 I believe...it's impossible to tell from the parts catalog, I only know this because when I was changing my lights from RHD to LHD three different wreckers asked the same question; "are they Xenon or Bi-Xenon"

The other thing to consider is that "new" lights need to be calibrated to the car, this means using the dealer diagnostic kit WDS, IDS or SDD. If the lights are pointing straight down and not cycling up/down at ignition-on, then it's a sign that the lights need calibration to the Headlamp Control Module, which is separate to the lights, under the dash I believe.

It looks like I have installed 2006 xenon headlights which won't work with my car. I need to look for headlights from the 2004 model! ugh

Looks like I'll be selling my old ones and buying new ones!

Bi-Xenon are mentioned in my 2003 technical notes, but may, of course, not have been fitted to early cars. I can confirm my mono-Xenons adjust as soon as I start the car with the lights on auto.

Jay, before you do anything get the car to a Jag dealer/workshop and get the lights calibrated to the car with an IDS. You'd be surprised...

Appreciate the comments guys/gals. My car is at our local Jaguar mechanic. He's really the only one that's around here that has all the correct tools/equipment to work on it with an hour distance. He seems like he knows what he's talking about and he tried to calibrate the headlights but it didn't fix my problem. The main problem here is that there's no communication between the headlights and the airbag suspension module. I found a pair for 550$ that are clean and I will end up selling my headlights after I purchase these new ones. Seems like such a waste! lol
