Default X350, S Type Parts Info Needed

Hi all was just a quick question as i am after new offside front upper and offside rear lower control arm. Was having a look online at parts and seen that S Type parts are a lot cheaper. Can anyone confirm that the parts are 100% interchangeable and if so why did Jaguar decide to be difficult and make 50 different part numbers for the same cars and charge different prices.

AFAIK the rear lower wishbones are interchangeable, but I'm not sure about the front upper, as the geometry may be slightly different because of the air suspension. You can get these things rebushed now, y'know. Aftermarket suppliers usually know, but try a Jaguar independent you know well.

Jaguar changed the part number on the X350 partway through the production, but I don't think there were any physical changes. Have you got the old wishbone off yet ? Measure it up and check against a new one for an S-type, or one taken off an S-type.

Have a look at this UK supplier site, and check prices for both. I don't think there is all that much difference.

Well lowers I have been told by a jaguar specialist they are 100% the same. Was confused on uppers as some member ps have commented on posts saying they have use s type uppers but there is a price difference between the xj and s type.

If the parts are identical, I'd go for the cheapest one. Clearly the air springs are unique to the XJ, but if the upper and lower wishbones are the same buy the cheapest. The XJ (X350) weighs less than an S-type so the suspension loadings will be similar.

At last just got round to fitting the new rear wishbone and what a difference it has made, car has gone from a really fast vibration at 70mph to a slow vibration grrr. Well at least it has helped the problem. When I got the arm off i could move the bushes with my hands, 2 were like jelly but one felt brand new so shows how the parts ware uneven. Would like to thank the guy who built my XJ for putting the one of the bolts the wrong way round (eg nut should be on end so bolt can slide out but no he put it so had to remove splash guard and then scratch the paint turning it out slowly.

Also found out in process that my shock bushes are shot i knew the front passenger was gone but rear will move by hand guess that must be my slow vibration i feel. Not to fussed about that will take shocks off next week to mates vice.

The only thing i struggled with was torquing bolts when on the ground i skipped this and just torqued on jack. I have rear alot about this putting extra load on bushes forcing rubber to twist but i got thinking that whenever i go to an indie they never have the torque specs for the car. Most people just use impact gun and be done with it.

so yeh if anyone reads this and can help with the vibration i am feeling threw the body of the car. Is it likely to be those worn shock bushes or something else like diff mount bushing?

Shock/airspring unit bushes are very cheap at around £20 each, but don't seem to last long, and this is not surprising at the four of them take the full weight of the car. Labour to replace can add up a bit, though, especially for the fronts.

I had a flat spot in my wheel. Found a wheel repair specialist to fix it and the vibration went away.

James,
Did you confirm that the rear lower control arm on the S-Type is interchangeable with the XJ8?

I plan to order both sides along with 2 shock bushings as soon as I find the best price.

I have looked for the shock bushings. The descriptions are confusing. Is there a US supplier for these?

Here is the part that goes into the bottom of the rear air springs, and into the wishbone at the front. At the front the air spring is connected to this bush via a bolt and has a lower fork to connect the two.

Look here

Shock Absorber Bush - C2D4013 | Jaguar F Type, Jaguar XF & Sportbrake, Jaguar X150 XK - XKR, Jaguar XJ 2003 - 2009, Jaguar XJ 2010 on | Jaguar | British Parts UK

This application note here is confusing also. So this works for the front and rear on a 2006 XJR?

The parts are compatible/interchangeable but X 350 R model cars, rear lower control arms, are marked SC for supercharged.

The upper arms are a direct fit for the Lincoln LS too. I can attest to that personally. Post 87# in my car diary catalogs this..

The top item is the front lower bush for the strut, you can find the rears a few pages back in this thread.

This page notes the arms themselves.
