Smile Xenon Headlamp Ballast

good day all!! thanks for all the help so far, now my next question... doses any one know which Ballast a 2005 xjr super charged jag uses? I would like to know and order one and have it in hand before I take off the ft end. thanks in advanced. I know there's 4 pin - 6 pin - 12 pin etc., just don't know which one I want to order. was going to just change both to newer ones which is easy, but ill have to mage a mount to use the new bulbs and don't know if I want to do that. the only advantage would be cost and I could mount the ballast for easy replacement.

Might be on the electrical guide (free download) or you may be able to tell via parts list.

My 2005MY, mid-2004 build XJR has the Valeo LAD5G ballasts.

Hi Troy,

Both the older LAD5G and newer LAD5GL ballasts connect to the D1S burners ("bulb"/igniter assemblies) via 4 pin connectors (only 3 pins are used). But the electrical harness from the headlamp connector to the ballast is 12 pins for the older style and 4 pins for the newer one. It is quite possible you have 12-pin LAD5G ballasts on your '05, based on posts by other owners. For example, H2Oboy's VIN is G40967 but his car had 12-pin ballasts. However, he concluded that the headlamp levelling was not implemented on his car, so he converted to the 4-pin ballast:

One of my 12-pin LAD5G ballasts has failed due to water ingress and I was considering making the switch to the 4-pin LAD5GL per H2Oboy's instructions, but after investigating the headlight leveling circuit schematic and the wiring in my headlamp, I believe our car does use the headlamp levelling stepper motor built into the headlamp assembly. Converting to the 4-pin ballast would defeat the headlamp levelling, which is controlled by the Air Suspension Control Module (ASM), but all the control signals pass through the Valeo LAD5G ballast via the 12-pin connector and are then passed on to the levelling stepper motor. It might be worth confirming which ballast you have before you place your order, since your car may have been built after the conversion to 4-pin ballasts. It's not that difficult to get the headlamp out following H2Oboy's method.

Cheers,

Don
