Default XJ8, slow to start

2007, XJ8, 62K miles, naturally aspirated
My car is slow to start, need to crank several times before firing up. It does not always do it so seems like plugs may not be the problem. I keep Stabil in fuel but try to start it and drive a little every 2-3 weeks if it isn’t used.
It has original plugs and I have never cleaned the injectors. Coils are original.
I plan to take the plugs out anyway so they don’t seized in the threads. I guess then get injectors cleaned.
Any suggestions would be great.

Next time turn the ignition to position II for 3-5 seconds before you crank it. This will prime the fuel system. If it starts easily when you do this, it is most likely a leaking check valve at the fuel pump. Been seen by a few others here on the forum, mostly shows up as long crank times in cold weather.

It is possible it is a leaking injector (or some other issue with the fuel pump), but that is less common. If you really want to find out you can determine which side is leaking by using a fuel rail adapter/test kit and see if the fuel bleeds off from the supply line or from the injector side.

Thanks.. I will try your suggestion. I believe you are correct, it must be fuel related.
