Default XJ8 X350 Bulb Replacement..Inner headlamp..Upper bulb.

I have personally replaced the H7 bulb in both the outer and inner headlamps ( HL ). However, I now have an upper bulb burned out in an inner headlamp ( only the inner head lamps have the upper bulb ). The owners manual makes no mention of this bulb, which is inside the housing after the back plate has been removed. Its tricky enough to replace the H7 bulb in the centre of the lamp, but the upper bulb is tucked away at the very top of of cavity, and I cannot access it to do the replacement job. I suspect that the whole HL assembley needs to come out to do the job!! I wonder if others have found this job difficult to do ??

Would that be the parking light as highlighted in this stolen photo?

Very difficult. When I had to do it I really lucked out when I touched the assembly the light came back on...

Never touched it again...

Its not too bad to do with a little patience. Did mine last year and was actually easier for me than the HID bulb.
Its basically the same as removing the headlight bulb the only difference is that the bulb sits on an extension; imagine a straw holding the bulb at the end. 90 degree needle nose pliers might make the job easier.
Here's a thread of someone replacing theirs and a pic of what it looks like: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ht-bulb-66165/

It's not necessary to remove the headlight to change the bulb but it is fiddly. If the stalk thing the bulb is attached to has been pushed in too far then you will be taking the headlight out.

Did both of my parking lights today with Sylvania 2825 cool white LED, getting them out was a walk in the park. Putting them back proved more of a challenge, but I found if you slip a short phillips screwdriver, or an about 4" long small machine screw inside the black jacket that holds the bulb. That made steering it in doable if not easy.

Once you have the bulb out, it becomes clearer. There is a little tab on the bottom of the bulb holder that must be lifted up to release it. I found that I could reach the tab with a middle finger, and at the same time apply gentle rearward pressure on the wires. Lift the tab and pull out the bulb holder. Replace incandescent yellow bulb with a good T10 Led, checking that it works (only works one way around) and guide the holder back into place by looking in the front of the headlight.

I have zero mechanical skills and this bulb replacement was a breeze for me. If I can do it - you can do it.

The key to this replacement was to look at the photos 310jag posted in this post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...4/#post2052203

The bulb sits on the end of a 5" holder. To remove it, first take off the round cap behind the entire housing. Then reach in and feel up to the very top for the clip you see 310jag holding in his hand. It looks like a fish tail. It's clipped into the bottom of the housing (think 6 o'clock on a clock face) and it is ribbed. When you feel the ribs, just pull up on it and ease the holder out by gently pulling the the wires. I was extremely gentle - no forcing - and it just slid out as designed. When I saw the holder and bulb in my hand it seemed too easy.

After putting the new bulb on the 5" holder, turn it on (to confirm the new bulb works) and keep it on. Look through round headlight itself as you push the 5" holder back in. Make sure the ribbed clip is dead bottom (i.e. 6 o'clock) and use the wires to gently ease it back in. I did not hear or feel the clip going back into its seat to confirm it was back in its housing, but it will just seat itself with no fanfare. If you gently tug on the wires you'll feel that it's back in place and not loose.

Approach this confidently and it should take no more than 5 minutes per bulb.

The key is to study the photo of the bulb stalk in 310jag's photo so you visualize what you need to do - and feel for that ribbed clip on the bottom.

PS And my hands have zero nicks or scrapes!

Thanks to this forum the actual replacement was an under-minute job (not including the cover removal), thanks a bunch guys!

Yep, same experience here.
