Default Yaw rate sensor - where is it and how to reach it?

With a lot of assistance I got the Mongoose working. It shows a front left wheel speed sensor no signal and Yaw Rate Sensor failure. I swapped out the L&R wheel speed sensors, checked the resistance of the wheel speed sensor at the ABS computer, and checked for continuity of the wheel speed sensor cable assembly from the ABS computer to the connector in the wheel well by putting a known resistance across the connector and then checking the resistance at the ABS connector. The ABS computer was replaced by the previous owner. Since I can't yet find anything wrong here I'd like to eliminate the other error and work on the yaw rate sensor check connections and possibly replace it.

I searched the forum - honest - but have not found a tutorial on how to find and get at the yaw rate sensor. I did find a post that said it was behind the ashtray in the console, but not how to get the console out or get to the sensor.

I've been spoiled by the detailed tutorials and was hoping someone could point me to where there is some information about reaching the yaw rate sensor.

Thanks,

Jim

Don't know much about the yaw rate sensor but read a good guide on here a short while ago about removing the central console https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-radio-30043/

Jim,

The Chassis section of the X350 Workshop Manual (which you can download for free from the X350 'HOW TO' quick links thread) discusses the ABS system and has a diagram but it isn't very helpful - it appears to point to the Yaw Rate Sensor being on the windshield! Maybe it is pointing to the right C-pillar? It would make sense for the YRS to be in the center console near the middle of the car, since it is supposed to measure the cars rotation around its midpoint. The diagram below comes from page 749 of the Chassis section, and the Yaw Rate Sensor is Part 5 (identified on page 750):

One other thing - if your car has Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the Yaw Rate Sensor may be built into the ACC module, which is behind the front bumper cover to the left of the radiator.

Sorry not to be more helpful. Hopefully someone will know for certain.

Cheers,

Don

Are we talking about the CATS Yaw sensors? If so, one should be located in the boot forward of the DVD/CD/nav units. And the other is on the right side lower engine area, in the area of the the height sensor. They do warn about the precise mounting position.

Are you thinking of the ECATS vertical accelerometers? They're located in the positions you describe. The lateral acceleration signal for ECATS comes from the Teves Mk25 control module.

The Yaw Rate Sensor's signal is definitely used by the ABS/DSC system, but I don't know if it's used by ECATS.

Thanks for the reply. I saw this diagram and it didn't seem to be very specific for location. I also looked in the parts manual and found the yaw rate sensor grouped with the air suspension storage tank under the spare tire. I didn't think is was there, but pulled the spare out just to double check.

Perfect, thanks. Sounds like a good Saturday project. If I find the sensor there I'll post a photo.

The Yaw Rate Sensor and Lateral Acceleration Sensor cluster is located right behind the J-gate.

You have to remove the center console (IIRC the factory workshop manual refers to it as the "Floor Console") and you should find the step by step removal instructions in the "Body and Paint" section.

How to remove it, will vary depending on the type of rear seat climate control you have. Just download that section of the workshop manual from the sticky links at the top of forum, then when you open the .pdf just search for "floor console" and you'll find what you need.

Check the connections before you assume that sensors are faulty.

Considering how many times I've removed my console and the shear amount of plugs in there, I would not be surprised if someone had pulled apart your console before you owned it and forgot to plug it back in. It would be an easy enough mistake to make if that's the spot it's in.

The lateral acceleration sensors could be the problem of cars that are shifting into stiff mode
we had such a case 2007 xj 2.7 that had a internal bump in the lower boot

Correct the YAW sensor is mounted inside the center console behind the EPB switch. Your looking for an Aluminum box that looks like this;

Has two mounting bolts and 1 electrical connector. As always Jaguar specs your cars parts by using the last 6 digits of the VIN. This needs to be checked BEFORE you order anything!

Here is where it's at from the workshop manual. Again as always it's not terribly clear as are all Jaguar factory manuals. At least it shows the EPB switch so I knew where that was in the console.

They rarely go bad so check the connection as suggested above. I would be fine with a used part too. A number of them on EBay.
Also the S-Type appears to be identical and the workshop manuals even use the exact same drawings to illustrate the location.
