In my 5 years of ownership my heat has never exactly worked and I just haven’t looked into it until today. The problem is quite obvious but the solution is anything but. For some reason the previous owner bypassed what looks to be the heater control valve. I’m not sure why exactly one might do this but there’s only one way to find out, un-bypass it and reconnect all the cooling hoses. If anyone would be willing to send a photo of the proper hose locations or say which hose connects to which, that’d be ~fantastic~! I’ll include some photos of my spaghetti mess of hoses.
It looks like there are two connections on the front of the heater control valve and two round back, then naturally two that go into the firewall and into the heater core. Looks like both hoses coming from the firewall lead into the same hose that heads back up towards the front of the car. It does not seem as if the heater core has been bypassed so I’m going to assume that the issue lies in the heater control valve. Just by a quick look, they seem mighty pricey so that sound like a junkyard trip coming up here soon, assuming I need another heater control valve.
Thanks for any help, cheers!
Keep in mind the heater water solenoid is not constant on or off but cycles by the A/C control mod as it reads the cabin temp sensor that gets clogged with dust
Look to make sure you have hose # 7 from the engine block to the pump side port inlet
Do you have odd hose # 12 behind the water solenoid ?

The hose correctly as # 2 by Aholbro1 is pretty much the same as on the X308 ( for local salvage yard parts sourcing ) with a added flow check valve that in my opinion should better the flow logic
The X300 design does not have this check valve and is not as " discrete " a flow pattern
But it worked on the X300 in practical means
I had a drawn out pic on the X300/same X308 flow pattern somewhere

Some years ago, I found a hose kit for the x300. Thought it was Amazon, but no record of it there in my past orders. Anyway, it was either $142 or $242, I can't remember. In either case, it included ALL coolant hoses, and was cheaper than sourcing them individually. Hoses #2 and #16 are the most expensive in the lot, Likely due to the funky ends where they connect together.
I've contemplated replacing 2 and 16 with a 4-WAY pvc pipe fitting and some standard 5/8" heater hose, but probably will target that project for the SpruceBruce $200 find, rather than either of the daily-drivers.
What is hose #16 called?
I’m about to cut that Norma connection off - fit with a new hose and standard connector - just curious what it’s referred to as Aholbro1
