Default 1996 Sovereign Locking

Hi,

Neither fob is working (have replaced batteries and lights work).

if I press the valet button 5 times there is no beep.
if I press the valet button once the boot is locked and will only open with the key, not with the dash button or the bottom on the boot.
if I lock the car with the key and then unlock it, the boot now will still only open with the key unless I unlock it with the dash button, at which point the button on the boot works again until the car is locked.

Ive searched old posts and can’t see anything quite the same.

Questions:
is the first step to replace the locking module, or is there any diagnostics/tests that can be done first?

thanks for any help/advice.

Oh, and I tried assuming the sounder was not working, and the fobs didn’t programme.

Welcome to the forum Swigbert,

The word "Sovereign" is a subtle hint you may have posted in the wrong forum. I presume you have the 1996 four door XJ6 a.k.a. X300 and not the 1996 two door XK8 a.k.a X100? In either case, the last thing rather than the first would be replacing the locking module. Confirrm which model you have and I'll move the thread if necessary.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

I've moved it to X300 forum for advice from members with the same model.

There's several dealer activated option settings available which complicate describing what is "normal" but this gives an overview of how the system should work:

If that doesn't help you, I find that when I start experiencing door lock issues, the battery is six months from being a goner. It may be as simple as replacing the battery.
