Hi Paulie206,

Congratulations on scoring an XJR6!

There are a lot of possible causes of a no crank condition, including the ignition switch, the Park/Neutral connections in the linear gear selection switch, the starter relay, the battery power connection to the starter motor, the electrical connections to the starter solenoid, the Body Control Module (BCM), etc. The starter circuit is shown in the 1997 XJ Electrical Guide, which you can download at the link below courtesy of Gus and his website, jagrepair.com:

You might also find some ideas in the thread at the link below, compiled by aholbro1:

Cheers,

Don

With the key 'on' does the "P" on the gearshift indicator glow red? If not, jiggle the gearshift and see if you can make it glow red and then tur the key to 'start'.

If this 'fixes' the problem then the linear switch next to the gearshift is out of adjustment

Cheers

Did you try jiggling the gear shift lever as Doug suggested? You can also try moving the gearshift lever down to N to see if the engine will crank.

I tried and neither work. My mechanic thinks its the body control module cuz suposedly it controls everything. We will exhaust all possible leadd before i give jaguar a $1000 for the part

If the "P" does not glow red then have your mechanic adjust the linear switch. It's the black rectangular box in the console mounted on the RH side of the gearshift assembly. The mounting screws can be adjusted so the switch cab be moved fore-and-aft a small amount.

With the key 'on' and the gearshift in "P", slide the switch a bit forward and rearward. With any luck some slight adjusting will result in the desired red glow. If you get the red glow, turn the key to 'start' and see what happens !

Cheers
