1997 Kingfisher Blue or Titanium XJR?
Check out the following link:
1997 Kingfisher Blue Metallic Jaguar XJ XJR #14795394 | GTCarLot.com - Car Color Galleries
The color is listed as Kingfisher Blue, but I think this is actually Titanium.
Two reasons, firstly I think Kingfisher Blue is a blue/green color, and secondly Kingfisher Blue wasn't around in 1997 and not offered as a standard color for the 1997 XJR.
Can anyone with a Kingfisher Blue or Titanium car confirm?
Thanks,
Al

... the impetus for this question is a 97 XJR up north that looks interesting:
1997 Jaguar XJR
The owner has graciously sent me about 30 photos. The interior looks mint, but there are a fair amount of door scuffs (appear to be clearcoat) and some corner scrapes on the drivers side front and rear bumper. I haven't had a chance to speak with the owner about exposure to snow/salt, accessory condition/operation and of course mechanical condition and maintenance.
Interesting color in the sun though.

That looks like a nice low-mileage R!

Hover your mouse over each of the other four Jaguars in their Ad and you'll see they are all described as KINGFISHER BLUE ....... and all are different colours:

I couldn't get the mouse-over to enlarge the thumbnails, but it's still obvious that the colors of those cars appear quite different from one another... Pretty funny.
Cheers,

I was curious about the color of car at the "GT" site above as it appears to be the same color as the seller's ad on CL. If so, that's a pretty sharp gray color, with a touch of blue.
My wife and daughter are really hip on the 95 Turquoise color, which I agree is really a great color
I think the same or similar color was available on the 96 XJR called Aquamarine, but not sure. Do any of you know if the Turquoise or Aquamarine type color was available on the XJR in 96?
Aquamarine was available in 97, but not on the XJR
Thanks

Yep, funny. Seems like the site is, or would be a great resource for researching various car colors, but the representation is certainly inconsistent
But to my question, anyone know if the car featured in the link I provided above (again below) is actually "Titanium"?

I've found a few photos of what appear to be 97 XJRs that do not have the color keyed grill and trunk trim. So far I've seen a white and two of these Titanium XJRs that have chrome grills.
I don't know if this was a special order optional choice or if Jaguar standardized on the chrome trim with some XJR color combinations in 97
...but they seem to be out there, and not especially rare.
.
Great looking low mileage XJR. I'm sure it is not without problems but seems like a much better base to start than the other you were looking at. If there are no major issues currently that's a great price. Do it!
I have a Titanium Pearl 97 XJ6L and I can assure you with some certainty the pictures of the car with the chrome surround are the same color as mine. I saw that ad before and wondered why they were calling it Kingfisher.
I always thought so myself. However, I think it looks better in photos that it does in the flesh. There's one near where I work that I see often. It's really a *loud* color...sorta jolts the senses!
Tastes, vary, obviously.
I think the same or similar color was available on the 96 XJR called Aquamarine, but not sure. Do any of you know if the Turquoise or Aquamarine type color was available on the XJR in 96?
I don't.
In pictures I've seen only one XJR in the turquoise color. No doubt there are others but it might be one of the more rare colors.
Cheers

Ha, and ergo the one at the "GT" site definitely is not Kingfisher
Thanks, that clears that up. The XJR at the "GT" site linked above is clearly the Titanium color then.
Correct, that is what B1mcp was saying with his post of the car on the trailer "This is Kingfisher"
Thanks for posting photos of the correct colors. That helped a lot!

Again here is the link to the CL ad for a Titanium 97 XJR with about 61k miles that I am also looking at:

I spoke with the owner today. He has also sent me the VIN, so I can run a Carfax.
He bought the car 4-5 years ago and had it shipped from California. Although he meant to drive it more, he says he has only put about 5k miles on the car since he bought it.
As you can see from the photos, there are numerous door scuffs, and actual scrapes on the drivers mirror, front and rear bumper corners, and perhaps some dings in front of the passenger rear wheel well. He also says there are some door edge chips, and a small dent in the roof in front of the sunroof (I've asked for a photo of this dent).
He said all of this damage was present when he bought the car, and in fact he didn't know this much damage existed when he bought it as the photos he had from the CA dealer weren't clear enough. Lesson learned on his part he said, but he also didn't want to spend a lot of money repairing/repainting the car given its value, which is understandable.
He says since he hasn't driven it much, he hasn't done any real maintenance other than oil changes. And since he doesn't drive it much, and it sits for long stretches, he says it does have a small oil leak that shows up on the floor after it has sat for a long time. He did say however that he had the entire sunroof mechanism replaced with another unit as the original malfunctioned.
Regarding the interior, he says it is essentially perfect. And in the photos it does appear to be in excellent shape, although the trunk is in disarray. According to him there is no damage to the interior, and all options/features are working. The only issue is that the CD changer sometimes will not play some CDs.
He says the car drives well, etc....
So, if the mechanics are good (IF), and the interior is indeed in excellent shape, what one is left with is a low mileage 97 XJR that:
- One is OK with leaving the exterior in fair to good condition
or
- One spends $$ to have repainted in part or whole
I spoke to one of our best local body shops and they estimated about $1800 for a good base/clear over spray, or $3-3500 for a factory or better quality base/clear stripped all the way down.
Those paint prices aren't bad, but to hit the $5-7k this car might have been worth if actually perfect, the $5500 asking price is quite high in my opinion. He may be able to get that price for someone who is focused on the low mileage, but I know I'd want it near perfect on the exterior and to put it that way would apparently cost me $2000 to $3500. So that $5500 is too high for me in this case.
The seller said he is negotiable, but I didn't press the point of how negotiable since I wasn't really ready to even make a real offer. But with the paint costs in mind, I probably wouldn't offer more than $2500-3000 which I'm not sure the owner would take given he's asking $5500. Hard to know without asking though, but I'd also hate to offend him as well.
The low mileage is tempting, but I have concerns that it has been driven so little over the last few years, and has had no real maintenance over that time. A lot of unknowns there.
On the other hand, I pulled a 95 Buick Riviera from a cow pasture last year after sitting for 3-4 years, put in a new fuel pump, changed fluids, belts and repaired the A/C and brake master cylinder, and now I've put 20+ essentially trouble free miles on it.
So I am leaning toward not pursuing this car, but thoughts?

It's sometimes very hard to tell certain colours in photos.
