Ain't Got No Defrost
Hi everybody,
No defrost. I ran a climate control diagnostic, after I cleared the codes, I had a code 45 that didn't go away, which is the center vent motor. Would a problem with the center vent effect the defrost? Where is the center vent motor?
I found this link in regard to the defrost motor: https://www.jaguarforums.com/g/album/2731861 and was assuming the defrost servo was the problem, but now I'm not sure.
Any advice would be most welcome.

The trim door motors have both a motor and a position sensor
If the position sensor is the only bad part you can drive the motor to the position you want with a 9 volt battery and freeze the motor position
9 volt battery can run all the door motors and if you listen you can hear them run as a functional test

You might be able to reach under the glove compartment toward the center where the climate control ECU is located
Your connector would be toward the car's aft.........

Thanks for your helpful reply Parker. That pdf is great. I have the instrument cluster out. There are two servos there. From your link, I believe one of them is the center servo. I might try to take it apart if I know it's defective. Doesn't look like many available for sale. Do the servos reprogram themselves if removed or replaced, or is there some method to follow?
9 volt battery test before taking anyting apart?
The position sensors will know exactly where they are at as you rehook up
Pic coming
If you take this pic with the green line splitting the top portion as the second diagram on page X
and the bottom portion as the first diagram on page X
The top portion is for the center vent and side dash vents containing your center vent servo , located car's right
The top portion has on the very rear ( front of the car ) the windshield defog servo , located car's left
The center vent grill pops straight out but you might want to leave it alone as the louvers breaks
You can stick a pencil in it to gauge the center vent door moving or a flashlight , you should hear it

It looks like the face vent servo is on the right side of the hvac box. I'm assuming the whole dash would have to come off for that. I guess my only option short of that would be to hook a 9 volt to those two pins like you mentioned earlier and hope to close off the face vent. I think it's preventing the defrost door from opening. I set it to the floor vent, and I still feel a fair amount coming out of the center/face vent.

I found a post by smartobject where the center/face servo can be got at by removing the glove box and some other bits and bobs. Somewhat daunting, but not as bad as removing the whole dash!
Thanks so much Parker, your input really helped. I'll post an update when I get further.

Keep careful track of your hardware on the glovebox removal
I can see the center vent door blocking the windshield defrost door and only giving you a center vent servo code
9 volt battery can drive it out of the way and you may get your defrost back
You may be able to do this without removing the glove box if you can reach the ECU connector
Once the center door is out of the way the system may reset to just like normal as it had a hickup
I have an error in the pin #s will have to clean up

Got a picture of my intalled climate control ECU with connector off
Pic coming
Not the correct pic , still looking as I just took it
This pic is with connector in hand with the connector spot above my finger
The ECU is mounted against the center console wall
This pic shows the ripple on the perimeter of the connector shell where the ripples mount the ECU pointing car right , so this is a rotation after a release button on the car;s right wire loom clockwise to ypu
Now the numbering
Your corrected center vent servo motor pins are......................................
7 and 20 , so my post # 2 is correct

Your windshield defrost servo will be pin 6 and 19 of the same connector
This is marked as light blue in my above chart post # 2
One of the 2 servos in question should run
