I have a small issue with my 95’ XJR. It is showing a bulb failure warning light on the dashboard, so I checked around the car and could not find a single bulb out. After a drive last night I found that under braking, the warning light goes out and then comes back on when I take my foot off the brake.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to go about this issue or what it could be.
I recall both my XJ40 and X300 were sensitive to cheap replacement bulbs.

Thanks for the advice and the kind welcome. I will introduce myself on the new member area now!
I spoke to a local headlight fitter and he said that the issue is electrical and recommended I replace the whole tail light unit.
Well, it's definitely electrical so he's not wrong there.
As he is a headlight fitter (is that a job?) he is bound to go for the most expensive option.
It could also be the warning light relay (I assume that it has one).
Have you pulled the bulbs and cleaned the contacts?
Don't forget the rear number plate lights.
Lol maybe fitter was a bad choice of words. He owns a vehicle modification shop and specialises in lighting. You've hit the nail on the head with the number plate light as one of those is out. Much appreciated! The cowboy told me a number plate light wouldn't trigger a warning on the dash. Will be paying him a visit on Friday with some choice words! Thanks again!
So after finding out that the number plate light was out, I went to buy a new set of bulbs. When I went to fit them, I found out that the housing that the bulb fits into has rusted over time and needs replacing. At least I don’t need to replace the whole tail light like that cowboy advised! Thanks for all the advice guys. Much appreciated!
Those 2 connectors are very important as they contain some engine regulation wires
In a pinch the effected wires can be simply spliced to get you going and a connector can be ordered later
I have a wiring color code chart for both the connectors on my laptop somewhere to piece it together
The V12 has 2 extra wires in the same connector but the 2 wires only come into one side of the connector like I found on mine for the inline 6, this may be your issue

Ok, so I managed to a couple of blurry pics of my connectors.
What I thought was cut leads was actually plugged holes (it seams), so never mind that!
But- to get rid of the bulb failure warning:
Mine comes on when I put on the parking- and main beam and my right turn indicator flashes in double speed. I tried changing bulbs and a "hard reset" but it´s still there.
Do you Think I should replace the connectors you Point at on the Pictures? Maybe just some Electronic cleaner spray....?
The double speed turn or direction flashing indicates a low current detected in the external lights control modual
On the 95 up to a certain production number there are 2 in the front , later they just have the one only in the trunk
You may have a wrong bulb in a socket not allowing enough current to flow , a bad socket , the contact ears on the bulb itself can be sprung out a little , or one of the connectors in the 4 under corners of the car can be corroded
The repeaters behind the front wheels should also be flashing , you can remove the socket by pushing the socket fwd or backwards on then pushing or puling on the front or aft edge . The wires going into the EV - 1 type connector can be broken and can be swapped with the ones on the trunk dome lights
See page 115 for a 96 as its a clearer diagram then the 95
Notice the grounds for the bulb current to pass through are the BL1 - ( left ) and BR1 - ( right ) connectors under the car like and the same part # as the Papa Indy 1 and 61 you were looking at behind the washer fill cap
There have been problems noted in a wire disconnected on the turn signal switch that can easily resolderd back on , you will notice this if you get no turn lights on one or both directions
