Default A/C drive belt idle pulley

Hello,
today I left my xj6 to the mechanic to replace the A/C serpentine belt.
My Chinese mechanic just did the job for $50.
I gave her also a brand new Gates 38006 to replace the old pulley.
She told me she tried to replace it but the new pulley I provided would not fit as expected and there was too much backlash once fitted. So she reinstalled the old one, telling me that anyway it is still good and makes no noise.
I'm sure my Jag mechanic would ask me $400 to replace that pulley.
I'm surprised anyway that this Gates 38006 is not fitting properly... shouldn't it be the right one to replace??
Am I missing something ?
thanks

Would be good know what happened there as I've also just ordered Gates pulley yesterday and was sure it should fit. I'll attempt fitting it tomorrow if it arrives today.

My have been the long adjustment bolt was rusted and frozen or failed to release the pulley center post clamping pressure for it to adjust and the mechanic bailed

The Gates one fitted just fine to mine although it did have a T prefix but cant see that making a difference.

FYI, several "Gates" belt tensioners I've purchased were actually marked Litens on the arm or body of the tensioner, and Litens is a Jaguar OEM...

Cheers,

Don
