Central locking system problem
I have a central locking system problem on my xj6 sport 1997 model.
it won't hard lock down.
It won't open boot lidI can't open the doors to let a passenger inIt sounds a alarm when the key is inserted into the ignition.
any help would be appreciated.

If it gets to it the security lock control module for the 97 is different and then your have your country specific version part #
Do you have the original Jaguar / Alpine stereo head installed ?
A small detail is the ignition switch when you withdraw the key it makes a linier switch from pin 4 to 5 starting a security system countdown to button the car up before going to sleep which is opposite of your observations
Try rotating the steering column control switch from auto to off , this is one of the button up steps of retracting and tilting up the column
There are sensors in each direction that must come to agreement of it's retracted position which may not be sensed throwing off the SLCM steps
