Default Security system nightmare

The other day my security system decided to show itself
without me asking it to. My alarm and horn both went off and
would not reset with key or other method. I had to pull fuses
for both so I can even attempt to diagnose it so I don't anger
the neighbors. I can get in the car and 20 seconds later all
the lights flash indicating alarm. I have never had a fob for
this car so I'm at a loss of what to do. Nothing seems to
reset it. As it is, it won't start and I haven't been able to
drive it for the last couple of weeks now. Please someone,
show me your wisdom...I have a 1993 XJ6. I have tried locking unlocking all doors, flipping the security button on/off with ignition turning, hard reset...nothing helps. I want to drive my Cat again as the weather has been getting nicer. Oh, also, the automatic locking/unlock feature isn't working either. I can unlock doors manually but no actuators move the knob.

I'm no expert, but if your doors are operating on the key, manually, but not electronically, I'd hazard a guess at one of the actuators being stuck in an "open" position. The actuators, one per lock, are electric switches that operate the locking mechanism. If one stays open, the car either can't or won't lock or will detect that a door is still "open" and so, trigger the alarm/immobiliser. This is where I'd start.

Also check the wiring loom where it goes into the boot, beside the (drivers' side I think) hinge, as this can suffer wear and break in places, even though the outer insulation is still intact and looks fine. This results in no power getting to the boot lock, with the same possible outcome as above.

Seems as though you will have to remove the door cards and check each lock actuator in turn. Check connections, earths, clean with electrical cleaner and try again, working one door at a time.

Others with more experience and knowledge will chime in.

Hope this helps.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJ40 forum.

The security systems have changed over the model years and members with the same model as you have will be able to help.
