Default Diameter on Differential Pinion?

Does anybody knows the diameter (place of Input Oil Seas) on the Pinion of the X300 Differential?

Thanks - Daniel

Does anybody knows the diameter of the pinion (seat of input Oil Seal) of the X300 Differential?

Which item #

Which differential , for the SC engine or normally aspirated as they may be different

1.375". Although you should be able to match up the numbers on the old seal can't you?

It is a normally aspirated car: 1996 Daimler Six (XJ6 Vanden Plas)

As I have to fix a loss of oil on the pinion (seals were already changed 2 times without success) my mechanic wants to put a "collapsable spacer"

Just to order the right part he needs the diameter of the pinion in advance (Or is the inner diameter of the pinion-seal is equal?)

Ideally, the spacer should be replaced each time the seal is removed. The reason is that the bearings need a certain amount of preload to function properly, and in older cars this was done with careful measurement and shims. To make production simpler, a collapasable spacer was introduced to replace the shims, so the pinion nut is torqued to the proper amount and the spacer collapses to the proper distance and acts like a shim. I have found that the spacer can be reused if care is taken, as the amount of torque needed to collapse a new spacer is very large - 180 ft-lbs is the torque spec.

If the spacer is over collapsed, it needs to be replaced and officially the whole differential needs to be stripped and the clearances need to be reset, so great care needs to be taken with tightening he pinion nut. If it's over torqued, it can't be backed off, as the spacer has over collapsed and needs to be replaced. A collapasable spacer won't fix the oil leak, there is either a burr on the pinion shaft ( not too likely) of the seal wasn't installed correctly into the housing. It is easy to get them just a bit off and have them leak.

Is he using the official Jaguar seal? An alternative is Land Rover seal is AAU3381. The spacer is Jaguar part number 12456.

Thanks Jagboy64

I have to make a correction after discussion with my mechanic. I was not correct in my description:

The mechanic wants to stop the leaking by using a "Speedi-Sleeve" It will be mounted on the pinion at the position where the pinionseal.

Is 1,375" the correct diameter at this position?

Daniel

Apologies, I was measuring the portion where the bearing sits, the seal track is 1.187".
The sleeve is a very thin piece that goes over the existing shaft to make a new surface for the seal to ride on. Since you're in Europe, 30mm might do.

I need to correct myself, 1.375" is the diameter at bearing location, the seal track diameter is 1.187" (30.1 mm)
