Having a bit of time over the Christmas period I decided to look at a Drivers seat problem which arose a couple of years back. The fore/aft system would move the seat about an inch then jam.
I concluded there was probably some foreign object in the system and took the seat out of the car.
It seems though that the mechanism which drives the seat has gone out of sequence.
Looking at the rails - now visible - I can see the left one is about one inch further in than the right one.
I compared this to the pax seat and noted the rails on the pax seat were equal.
I believe I need to reset the rails.
Does anybody have any experience of detaching the drive motor mechanism from the rails?
I need to perhaps open the drive gear box but can not see how to do that.
There appears to be a long bolt passing through the gear box which attaches the gear box to the rail.
I can not see how to open this unit.
If I remove the drive motor this does not seem to give access to the drive gear.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Chris
I have had two X308's and have not seen or heard of this issue before.. so I am not of much help, but if you repost this in the X300 series section you will find people with far more knowledge than me of the X300 series..
I hope you manage to resolve the issue, and please let me know how you get on, as if needed I do have a couple of external sources that we can tap into if need be :-)
I thought I'd read this earlier posted in X300 forum but clearly I wasn't paying attention. I've now moved it from UK & Eire Region to X300 forum for advice from members with the same model.
In my attempt to resolve the problem I (foolishly) thought to remove the seat base as this would give me better access to the runners and gear motors.
Unfortunately this is not the case.
The drive cables for the backrest pass through the seat chassis and I can not separate the base from the seat.
I thought of remove the cover to the gear drives but this has a long bolt which is fitted aft to fore and the drive mechanism does not permit the removal.
The only way I can think to access the gear drive is cut this bolt and replace in the opposite direction - from front to rear (where there would be sufficient space to refit the bolt.
This seems a bit extreme.
Does anybody know what the powered 'control' is which is attached to the left gearbox drive? There is no such unit on the right rail.
Bit frustrating!
ANy suggestion greatly appreciated.
Best, chris
I managed to disassemble the seat and remove the offending rail.
This required the removal of all wiring (that which I could)
Then I drilled out the two pop rivets holding the rail to the subframe.
Took the drive unit apart and found the drive wheel has broken up.
Now to find a replacement!
Have some photos but I do not seem to be able to add these to the post.
How do I add a photo?
I seem to have the same issue, the seat is only moving a bit, sometimes a few cm, sometimes not even that. I think I read somewhere, that this happens due to defective seat position sensors (I have memory seats), but that´s just hear say.
Yes, I found a solution.
The drive gear wheel had broken up.
I purchased a second hand seat base (cost GBP17) and sent this to my brother in the UK.
He kindly removed the gear box by drilling out the two rivets holding the seat rail to the seat base.
This permits the removal of the rail and the gear drive. He sent same to me.
Awaiting receipt and hoping this works.
Sending the seat base to South Africa from UK was deemed 'Too expensive' thus the dismantling.
