Al

There's really no way around that except to never drive the car. The bolsters are tall enough the there's really no way to avoid dragging against it.

Mine's about due for another re-dye on the bolster, in fact.

I might add that the X300s are not very tall as 4 door sedans go. That's one of the reasons they look so damn good....but, while falling *into* the seat is easy (what with gravity and all) climbing back *out* might result in an occassional groan if your bones and joints are over 50 :-).

Not like a little sportscar, mind you, but not like a more typical tall-ish sedan, either.

Cheers
DD

Bingo!! Right on Doug.

Al,

Couple of things, I don't know about the availability of a retrofit kit for the glovebox for early 95's but i do know that it is nigh on impossible to retrofit a later glovebox without doing some serious surgery to the cross brace (not recommended) I'm not sure when the changeover occurred. My car was manufactured 12/94 and does not have the glovebox, so sometime between the end of December and February 95 would be my guess. Perhaps when the plant shut down for the holidays?

As to the specs for the 95XJR, I think I mentioned it on one of your other threads, the XJR was fully optioned in 95. The only available options for the US market were the leaper ornament, an engine block heater and a full size spare wheel/tire.

Heated rear seats and a heated windshield were not available on any XJ6/12/R in the 95MY.

Here's a photo of the spec page of the 95 brochure.

My XJ6 was manufactured in 1/95 and no glove box. Lucky us.

No glove box = one less compartment for junk to accumulate, and one less bulb to purchase every five years lol. Perhaps it might even prevent a window from being broken by a would-be thief seeking to rifle through glove compartments.

If one wanted to consider a "glass half full" perspective, one can also look at the lack of glovebox as a little bit of "exclusivity"

...or even a "lightweight performance feature"!

But yeah, not a big deal, I was just curious. Having or not having the glove box wouldn't be a deal breaker. I assume there is room to put "stuff" in the armrest like registration, etc.

I went to see and drive this XJR for Al. Mechanically it's in above average condition, with low miles and all systems operating accordingly. Due to the "love it or leave it" color and the usual cosmetic nits, I think the asking price is 2-3 grand too high.

For the curious, here are some pictures I took: http://imgur.com/a/UwETK#0

I think we'd all agree it's a nice car, and the only real issue would be the price. He simply wants too much for it but I think dealers price it higher with hopes of being talked down to what it is actually worth.

As long as the rear axle isn't dripping wet, I think it would be a decent car.

Thanks to 95XJRBlack for viewing it for another forum member, and more thanks for posting the images using imgur hosting rather than photobucket hosting so that those of us who have photobucket access blocked on our work computers can still see them

Indeed, thank you VERY much for taking the time to check the car out.

I too have spoken with the seller and he seems like an honest and genuine guy, but is a dealer that self-admittedly is not an expert on this particular type of car. So that's a disadvantage for him and any prospective enthusiast buyer versus buying from an individual with personal interest in the car.

Along with the price being high, I have some concerns about general condition, maintenance and repair work based upon the photos and conversation I had with the seller.

Questions around the sunroof interior cover being missing and the overspray under the rear bumper seems less than ideal, not to mention the general dirty condition of the car... for a car someone is asking to sell for $9k It appears to be missing its spare tire as well? Or maybe it was just taken out for the photo? Not sure on that one.

Since the seller said he really doesn't really notice those kind of details, that makes a long distance purchase on this one too uncertain for me.

I while I think it is a nice example, I think I'll pass.

If someone is local and can give it the time to really inspect every little detail, this may be a good deal if the price can be negotiated down.

Thanks again!
Al
