Default EGR Valve...

I am wondering if there is a correct or incorrect method of cleaning the EGR valve... I got fault code p0400 and p0411 so I know that it is faulty but could just be clogged and stuck open or closed.. Will carb cleaner damage the components of the EGR valve?? I was thinking of using some carb cleaner and an old fashion pipe cleaner to remove the carbon build-up and also clean the lines and ports the are utilized by the EGR valve and its components.. Can I clean this without destroying it??

You can't hurt the EGR valve with chemicals short of concentrated acid. Its pintleis very resistant to most anything since it handles exhaust gases which are corrosive and contaminated. Use something strong to get the baked on depsoits off of it. I also use carb or throttle body cleaner.

Those codes could also have to do with the air pump and tubing joints leaking from manifold to egr and air pump make sure they are tight and not leaking. I changed the air pump and the codes were gone on the XJR
