Engine problems.
Greetings to you all,
I have just purchased a 95 xj6 and after driving it for a few weeks, it seems to have an engine problem.
Upon starting it, it shakes like crazy after I took it to have the engine washed. The reason I washed the engined was because there were spots of oil on the engine and I wanted to find out where the oil was coming from. Now, it is not even drivable. I have a feeling I poured water where water is not supposed to go. Please help.
Thank you,
Val.

Red hot exhaust suggests a bad igntion misfire as unburned fuel accumulates in the cat converters.
I'd start by using WD40 or electrical contact cleaner on all the connectors to see if you can drive the wetness out. You may have to open some of the connectors up. Take a hard look at the coils, too. Maybe some water got in there as well?
No reason to think the car is a lemon.
Cheers

your engine problem
hi there
had the same problem at the weekend
i washed down my engine, and started up and running like a pig,
found the problem
on the six's the coil packs let in water to the plugs
i had 2 coils packs sitting in water, (no gaskets on them)
so i know very naughty way of doing it,, but just undone the plugs let the water run into
the cylinder, wipe down the plugs n coils pop em back in and running perfect again.
hope it helps you
cheers

Just to say thank you to everyone that helped. It turned out that there was water in the ignition coils and I had someone take care of that at a shop. Plus I changed the spark plugs and the car is now running like a charm... Now looking for some wheels to pimp up the car some!

Just so you know to watch out for it, the moisture that was down in the coils can have contributed to cracking in the bakelite casing of the coil. It is possible to repair those cracks, but they will cause a loss of power to the plug and discharge into the valve cover if left unrepaired.
Peace!
