Default engine swap

a friend of mine wants to put 4.0 engine into his 3.2 this should be a straight enough swap yes? would it be to much for gear box or are the ratio"s same or would it better with the 4.0 ltr box at back of it, what else should be exchanged, any help would be gratefull

The gearbox on the 4.0 litre car is a different beast to that on a 3.2 in that it's electronic, with sport mode, unlike the 3.2. Also the diff ratio is different on both cars, so, ideally, to get the best from the swap, I imagine you'd have to chage everything.

Not sure about ECU's etc. although strangely enough, the throttle body is exactly the same. I suppose the difference is in how they are "instructed" by the cars computer.

Not sure of any other major differences off the top of my head. I have a 3.2 donor, so the above main bits aren't a lot of use to me as my daily driver is a 4.0 litre.

The hydraulic only ZF4HP22 gearbox from the 3.2L will cope with the performance of the 4.0L engines and would therefore make the change easier than fitting the electronically controllled ZF 4HP24E from the 4.0L car, as you would also need the gearbox harness and transmission ECU.

I'm happy to hear that and glad to be further educated! So it seems, if push comes to shove, I do in fact have a donor box that will work with my 4.0 litre engine? Of course, then there would be the electronics/wiring to sort out, yes?
