Default Front mufflers

While I was at tire shop gettin my new tires/wheels, a guy that said he has 3 jags took special interest in my car and struck up conversation. He said if i remove the front mufflers and replaced with exhaust pipe that I would gain 20-30 hp. Any input on correctness of this and positve/negative consequences?

A bit more sound and a bit more power...nothing near 20-30hp...according those those who have already been there.

Thanks Doug, I think I'll try it. A little more power and throatier sound would be cool.

I always wanted a little throatier sound on my cat..would you guys know what muffler would do nice?

Thrush all-welded mufflers...good alternative to Flowmaster or Magnaflow...I've used them on numerous cars I've had, with good results. Something like this:

If they're too loud, you can always add 12" glasspack resonators to tone them down a bit...

But for god's sake don't run just glasspacks or coffee cans at the back...it's a Jaguar after all! Save the ghetto mods for the BMW and Mercedes crowd!

Only thing I have ever questioned with modifying the exhaust is whether or not it would throw out any error codes. In the past I may have chuckled at that but with the seemingly sensitive nature of some Jaguars, I have seriously wondered this.

Default front mufflers

mufflers are critical on the I6 S/C cars as are the v8,s I have no experience with the V8 cars but have done a full headers to tailpipe on my I6 XJR got sick of fixing cracked headers
with the wrong mufflers it will get a bad drone if its a I6 car I talk from experience if I was doing it all over again and knowing what I know now i would install a set of these I know a few guys that have used them now and the sound is great and no droning at low throttle openings

Doc, that is one nice looking exhaust system. I bet it cost a pretty penny, too.

Very nice Doc. The guy that was telling me about the pre-mufflers said to eliminate them altogether and replace with exhaust pipe. I HATE the sound of the coffee can systems the kids put on their hondas. He said it would make it sound more deep and noticeable.

I would like to get a AMG 6.3 exhaust type sound and I know its virtually impossible with a I6 Vanden Plas, but I want something that sounds throatier but respectable. Don't want to get something to be laughed out. Our cars look good too with bigger tail pipes that fit into the cuts. So would some flowmasters or magnaflows do justice?

The whole system cost a packet
I also have headers made of 304 stainless for I6 X300 for sale direct fit onto the original olive using the front single system

If I was doing the system again I wouldn't use 2 cats that is overkill I would use a single High flow metal substrate cat same as I already use but just one I would then use a single input muffler like this Dynomax® Performance Exhaust | Mufflers | Dynomax VT™ Muffler then splitting it into 2 mufflers at the back that way the cost is reasonable and with the VT muffler you get the best of both worlds no drone and great sound when you are on the gas

My car sounds fantastic I have since designing the headers and system redesigned the rear mufflers the I 6 engines drone quite a bit when the pipes are big my system is 3 inch out of the headers slimline resonator splitting into a twin 2.5 inch system a bit big that's why I changed the rear mufflers
Basically I would use the headers I build using the original underfloor pipe get rid of the twin underfloor cats using a single high flow cat then the VT muffler and a set of cherry bombs or as we call them here in Australia a Hot dog muffler that way the original piping could be used to save money
