Fuel flows from the fuel tank, through the fuel regulator (metal cylindrical item with the fading Lucas label), just next to the black cruise control bellows on the left side in your photos, up through the fuel rail tube (left to right in the photo) and towards the right, as it delivers fuel to each of the six injectors, then the excess fuel makes it back to the fuel tank following the missing hose that would connect to the right side of the pic. If that helps any more.
On second thought, I might be completely mixed up. i might be narrating the fuel delivery in reverse!

you are.
it travels from the tank, through the rail, through the regulator, which maintains the pressure in the rail, then it returns to the tank. this is easily seen when you un do the fuel line as to where the fuel keeps pouring from if you do not stop the pump.
Just be sure, the fuel filter is still on the supply side, not on the side that return fuel back to the tank. I know it sounds silly, but I botched the fuel routing already….
Attached is the official fuel delivery diagram, note however they seem to have the fuel pressure regulator at the rear instead of the front and inlet at the front.
Seems Jaguar does not always get it right.
I have also attached fuel rail photo with the cover and CV hose removed for better clarity.
NOTE - return fuel hose from the regulator is to the right of the Fuel pressure gauge.
