Question ? Gauges real time or semi like XK8

My 2002 XKR temperature gauge wasn't real-time, quite a disappointment. JagWrangler had an upgrade kit to change that called Real Gauge.

Sooo, the XJ6 has more gauges (great!) but I am wondering if any of them are effectively placebos or so slow as to be of little use before you are in trouble...

Just guess. I use a Ultragauge in my XJ6. It monitors temp. among other things and has an alarm function. Also reads and deletes codes.

They're idiot gauges.

The earliest X300s (maybe first 3-4 months of production?) had a real oil pressure gauge but Jag then went to an idiot gauge.

The temp gauge on X300s has been an idiot gauge all along.

As it happens the oiling systems and cooling sytems are so reliable on X300s it hardly matters, IMHO

Cheers

Yep, and I plan to just use an OBDII app on my phone via Bluetooth at some point. ...more for "fun" and interest than fault monitoring.

The red "low coolant" light on the right side stack is probably more useful than the gauge. If that comes on, you've sprung a leak and should stop immediately, even though the gauge would still read "normal" for some time.
