Default Hazard Warning Light

Noticed tonight, the hazard warning light on my 95 XJ6VP (on the clock panel) stays lit all the time even when the dash lights are off. The flashers work perfectly when I press the button, and it flashes in sequence with the blinkers. I'm just wondering why the button (switch) is lit all the time even when the lights & ignition is off.

Had to double check in the car but the button backlight should not be on unless the lights are on, AND the key is at one click or two (ignition on). Is the backlight still on when the key is out? You don't need that small continuous battery drain.

Yes. The light is on with the key removed and lights off. Luckily, the car has a trickle charger on all the time.
