Help Opening Boot (Trunk) when battery flat
Can anyone help me urgently, my battery is totally flat. How do I open the trunk or boot ? Obviously the key does not unlock it.
hope someone can help, I’m stuck and can’t even use jump leads.

G’day Winalot,
You could connect a battery to one of the terminals, on one of the fuse boxes, under the bonnet/hood and power the car’s electrics to get your boot/ trunk open.
Lubricate the lock and use it often to keep it working.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Thank you, that did it. For future ref, left hand fuse box under hood, left hand front corner 15 amp fuse, furthest terminal, is connect live to battery.
Note to those saying why not use the key, if the battery is totally flat, the key does NOT work?
Thanks again

G’day Winalot,
Well done on getting your boot open.
They key should always work though it needs to be turned a full 90 deg. My boot lock was frozen from lack of use and I had to spend quite a
bit of time and a lot of WD40 to get it to free up and now I use the key often to make sure the lock works freely.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Just had a look around trunk key, is it mechanical as well as electrical, ie it will unlock electrically and mechanically release the trunk. If so as you suggested it needs cleaning up. Sorry if I’m being thick, I’ve little or no info on the car except what I have downloaded, only the drivers manual, which doesn’t mention it.

G'day Winalot,
It looks like you need to go over the whole mechanism and clean and lubricate it. The manual/key mechanism on my car was pretty much jammed solid with dried grease and corrosion and it took quite a bit of work to free it up and for it to work properly.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Thanks Jeff, but which end I’d the problem? The key end or the latch on the actual trunk, they seem to be connected by a rod. I guess when you turn the key fully the rod releases the latch ?
