Default Help....Transmission Control Module x300 VDP

My mechanic tells me he can resolve my stalling problem with a new transmission control module....the dealer wants 1600 usd for it....a used piece for 125usd but may not be programable...has anyone experienced this problem or can you tell me where we can get a refurbished unit or a better price...???

Stalling problems are often throttle body related, particularly throttle position indicator, or just a need to clean the butterfly. Is your mechanic a jaguar specialist?
A TCM with matching numbers is likely a plug and play, but a new one would definitely require a programing.
If the TCM is truly suspect, try contacting Automotive Scientific to see if they can test and repair:

I agree with RJ237. When I had a stalling problem I researched here and first cleaned my TB, but only noticed performance improvements when running, but the stalling continued. I then changed out my ECM relay and it solved the problem. ECM relay is outermost relay of the 3 relays behind the passenger side headlights.

If you are near Atlanta, PM me and I bet I can tell you where one is you can have for free- just take it off the car.

Are you suggesting that the diagnosis i've been given is invalid?

This problem causes the transmission fault light to come on and go into limp mode...my mechanic seems to be well schooled with Jaguars...but who knows for sure...He say he is

My ECM relay becoming intermittent thus causing the stalling also caused my transmission to go into limp home mode. Stalling does that. Try the ECM relay.

George:
The used module should not need programming if it matches the model (no XJR). Go for the same year if you can. And, for gosh sakes, don't do something stupid like give the dealer $1600.
