I have never owned a Jaguar before. the engine and transmision seem to be tip top, but it has a horible noise coming from the wheel assemply area i think. so loud i cant even tell wheich wheel or wheels its coming from. i have googled and found several directions to go, thats actually how i found my way here. Anyone have any ideas? love the car, hope i didnt get in too deep.. Only paid 700$ for it.

Hi Kondro,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums and congratulations on your new Jaguar.
I have moved your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X300, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1996 XJ6.
As Torrid and Fraser have mentioned, the wheel bearings are prime suspects for loud grinding noises, especially when going around corners. Another possibility could be a worn brake pad grinding against a brake rotor, which should be easy to find by inspecting the condition of the pads at each wheel.
To check your wheel bearings, raise a corner on a jack, using the proper jack points under the side rocker panels or sill panels. With the wheel raised off the ground, grasp the tire at 12:00 and 6:00 and alternately push and pull the top and bottom and observe any excess movement in the wheel. Don't mistake tire deflection for wheel movement. Spin the wheel and listen for any grinding noises. If you detect any play in the wheel or hear any unusual noises, suspect the wheel bearing.
Let us know what you find and we'll be happy to help you move forward.
Cheers,
Don

I've just replaced my front bearings and I'm half-way through the rear-right, finishing tomorrow with the new hub I got today.
Best advice I can give is not to panic, it's really very simple to do. And Mr DonB has posted some most impressive guides in jag-lovers with links here on the site.
