I haven't posted anything significant for a long time, but I have been here for 8 years, 8 with a 3.2 auto, 6 with a manual XJR6.
I have done 100,000km in the XJR in that time, and 60,000 in the 3.2
I love them both, both different, but awesome. The 3.2 is a bit underpowered and I'd quite like a V12 sedan to replace it, or an XJS. But it is a great car...
anyway, it's a hot summer down here in NZ, my cars live outside all the time, it sometimes drops to a frost but not brutal winters. I hope you are all OK, as most of you are Northern Hemisphere, in winter, COVIDified, and I hope you are all good.
Keep Jagging...
Winter in the northern half of the big blue marble, even in Arizona. Chilly rains lately, and much snow in northern Az. Not suitable for the Jaguars! Az ski slopes are sold out. Precautions in place of course.
Vaccines coming around slowly, anticipating mine very soon. Everyone should still be careful in the meantime. We've come this far!
The V12 is a beauty. But I too often miss the 4.0 AJ16 and that distinctive sound. Cheers all!
It’s very wet and cold here in England, and my XJR is off having its suspension renewed, all ready for lots of driving this summer (at least I hope too!).
Covid is all over the news, but deaths and hospital admissions are coming down at last and the vaccine roll out is going well, so maybe this year may get back to some “normality’.
Also in the Netherlands winter, cold and wet. That is the time for me to take the X300 4.0 out of the garage and put the XJS convertible 4.0 in the garage. Both AJ16 4.0 engines, fantastic. Enjoy the AJ16 engine all year round. Lockdown and curfew, so far still to be done.
Cafpete,
Great to see the pictures of your front end rebuild. I am particularly interested to see you are going to replace the V mounts, as I have wondered about doing mine. I was put off by my trusted main dealer parts guy who scoffed at the idea saying they "never" wore out. Seemed unlikely to me, but in the absence of any perceived issue and the effort to replace them, the task has been put on the preventive maintenance back burner........
How would you assess the condition of your old ones versus the new?
I could do with some warm NZ winding roads about now, thanks for asking! I am past yearning for year-round fair weather, and now try to make the most of each extreme. But instead of putting away my non-winter pasttime (Jags!) completely this year, I brought home a new project on New Year's Day. Then we got over a foot of snow yesterday.
Can’t really say as the car is being worked on at David Marks in Nottingham. He is very good at sending pictures down as the work progresses.
I asked him what was likely to have worn out and needed replacing and they were part of his to do list. Looking at the pictures I have so far I think he was right lol

My car had a lot of suspension work last year - lots of bushes, rebuilt shocks, etc etc.
And it had a stuffed V-mount, so two new ones installed.

1995 Automatic (for now?), 71,000 km.
And still a great profile... it looks a little like an S-type now, but still a Jag.
Amazing how much the snow compacted overnight. Glad I shovelled what I had to when it was fluffier.
Re: the relentless virus, we in Southern Ontario are in week 3 of our second lock down (first was last spring), which is proving very effective in bringing down new case numbers. I do not personally know anyone who has tested positive.
I live in Chester, England. The pandemic is causing problems including deaths among my neighbours and golf club members. Myself and wife have had our first jab and hope the fools in the European Commission do not prevent the second dose from getting here! We are essentially in lockdown and I have driven just 1,005 miles in the past year in my X330, according to my recent MOT report. We also have “a retired managers” car that gets changed frequently. The last vehicle was returned after only 256 miles - a great used car buy for someone! I can hardly wait to re-start playing golf and driving my classics and attending car shows. Keep safe folks - this virus is not to be messed with and more so the new variants. Alec G.
Since I moved from Illinois (lousy winters and car eating road salt) to Arkansas where the winters are mild, very little road salt (which does on occasion make driving a bit dicey) I am getting along wonderfully! Just last night I took my VDP out for a jaunt on some twisty back roads from north/west of Branson Missouri to the Missouri/Arkansas state line (about 25 miles) Quite an exhilarating jaunt and the old girl was in fine form and enjoying the exercise.

Just got my car back this morning, very happy with the improved ride. I would say that your dealer has some learning to do, as my old V mounts were knackered lol
