It's possible, but you may then get the heat you ask for, good-n-hard!
Likely just as cheap and quick to mend the car properly if you proceed systematically.

Why do you suspect the valve?
Wait, first, not to insult you.... but we ARE talking about a 1995-1997 XJ-6 with a 4.0L or 3.2L inline 6 cyl. Aren't we?

If you have no heat, it is likely the circulation pump. The brushes wear out over time. Replace those and you'll probably have heat again. Most likely you'll have to go to an industrial / electrical supply store and find some that are close in size and cut them to shape. Brushes are graphite, so easy to shape with some sandpaper.

Thanks for the help. Yes it is a 95 VDP 4 Lt. and yes the circulation pump is shot.
It needs the brushes for sure. I live in Canada and it is cold here now. Just about 3 degrees now. Have the pump out now and will look for brushes. This is our only car so I try to keep it able to run all the time.
Thanks Paul

Try a junkyard? Mercedes and BMW also use similar setups for heaters, not sure about hose sizing though.

As a quick and dirty test, give the pump a whack with the end of a snowbrush. It will probably come to life for a bit longer. I had my pump quit on a trip through Southern Alberta when it was -30 and I had to pull over about every hour and give the pump a thump to keep it working and have heat. The impact will unstick the brushes and give just a bit more contact and until the tiny bit of brush movement bears off.

Rebuilt it when I got home, but there are not exactly a lot of electrical suppliers when you are passing through Longview, Alberta!

Suede did a nice how-to with picks on replacing the brushes in the pump. I mentioned it in another recent heater thread and he followed with a link. If iii can find it i'll edit-back.
found it: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ot-heat-84596/
See post #11

The experience I have made is that it is much more likely for the heater core to be plugged than for the brushes to be worn out, but mine has always been a Texas car so I doubt the pump motor has seen much action. If so, a quick back-flush with the water-hose will probably restore it for a few months.

See the PDF in post #5. I was suggesting a no-heat bypass but you could easily cut that by pass hose and connect both cut ends to the inlet and outlet of the heater core and then remove the whole spaghetti assembly attached to the pump and valve and take it inside where it's warm for sorting and mending. Not sure how controllable your heat will be, tho.
