On a related note, since no one seems to have mentioned it yet in this thread, the use of modern lower viscosity oils seems to contribute to the gauge going to zero and the low oil pressure lamp illuminating. Using the viscosity recommended by Jaguar for one's local climate seems to help reduce these occurrences (for our warm Tennessee summers the owner's manual recommends 20W-50 for our '93).

Cheers,

Don

I have a very similar problem. The oil pressure light is almost always on and the gauge is almost always at zero. My mechanic has replaced some part, I guess the transducer, twice. Once in a while the light goes out and the needle goes up to normal, especially after my mechanic has been in the engine moving stuff around. I suspect a problem with the wiring. I've been thinking of just running my own wire (I have the schematic and can probably find the other end).

Any body know anything more about the wire that was mentioned earlier?

No worries, I'll do it for you. Here's the info, courtesy of Bob Gauff (motorcarman):

"The 1995 X300 (V) 720001 - 746613 have the pressure transducer.
Subsequent cars were fitted with switches and the INST PACK was reprogrammed to suit."

Don

Has anyone had any luck with cleaning the transducer so it operates properly?

The oil pressure sender is a single-wire unit so the ground path is through the engine block and engine ground strap. A common cause of malfunction is oil contamination of the threads of the sender and port in the block. Sometimes, removing the sender and thoroughly cleaning the threads in the block and on the sender will restore proper operation. You can remove the oil with a good zero-residue solvent like electronic contact cleaner (not tuner cleaner that contains a lubricant). A battery terminal brush helps clean the threads in the block port. Also clean the sender electrical connector since it tends to collect oil, coolant and other gunk.

But the sender is such a pain to access, and the newer switch-type ones are so inexpensive, that I personally will never again remove an old one without having a new one to install after cleaning the connector and the threads in the block.

Cheers,

Don

Part# LNA5642CA transducer.

Will this work on a 93 XJ6?
