Question Mr peter grove

On my XJR 6 cylinder Super Charged motor what is the Potentia Meter 's function????Would appreciate answers.

Hi Peter,

I assume you are referring to the Throttle Potentiometer, also know as the Throttle Position Sensor. If so, this is a variable resistance device connected to the throttle body and wired as a voltage divider. As the throttle opens and closes, the potentiometer rotates and its resistance varies, which causes the voltage signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to vary proportionately, so the ECM knows the degree to which the throttle butterfly valve is open or closed. This signal is critical for the management of engine fueling, ignition timing, orchestrating smooth gear shifts, etc.
