Default Need help, screeching coming from engine?

Hello, i'm new here, I am asking question for my dad who owns the car. Can anyone please help and maybe suggest what the problem might be. Did some research and found it may be the belt, belt tensior? dad asked around and they told me it can be water pump or fan belt?

here is a sound clip. on some day it gets really loud. happens usually in the morning and sometimes throughout the day.

thank you.

Mine did a similar noise as well. It turned out to be a replacement for brand new fan assembly . Both main fan and aux fan and prior to tackling this job we replaced pulley, belts too . That was excruciating because people looked at the car due to vacuum cleaner sound After all these works done then a smooth sailing

Not sure about that sound from an engine, but window-box air conditioners make that same sound when the fan makes slight contact with the surounding facade, in the case of air conditioners this is usually due to rust causing the metal to deform or bulge slightly - so rotate the fan by hand (with the car off for heaven's sake!) and check if it drags at all on the housing around the fan

First thing is that you need to post in the X300 section.

The crank damper has come apart. The rubber section has failed.
You need to replace it but I doubt you want a new one if you can still get one from the dealer.

I removed mine and sent it to 'damper doctor' but there are many companies that can rebuild the crank damper.

I have the same sound coming from my car. Usually only on cold starts in the mornings and when I get out of work late in the night. It goes away as long as the car is accelerating but as soon as I'm back to idle it's there again until the motor heats up.
Is the crank damper similar to a harmonic balancer?

The crank damper IS the harmonic balancer.

Hold the camera still! Sounds like an African beat.

Thanks motorcarman, I learn every day here. I did not know balancers could be rebuilt. It wouldn't be much to ship one, is there a place you know of that does the best job?

I used a FLAT RATE box from USPS (good to 70 pounds??) and shipped it to damper doctor but there are several places that rebuild dampers.
