Question New boots.. cause of new problems? 19"ers look good though

Hey everyone got the new 19" chrome on the x300
Around 30 miles after driving I noticed a metal on metal really disturbing noise coming from the drivers side rear wheel.
Jacked the car up and realized once wheel was in the air that the entire wheel would move from in to out about 1/4" along with the brake assembly.
Lets just say i'm glad that I decided to stop pumping the sounds for a minute and roll down the window to hear any noises besides my shot rear shocks...metal on metal clanking gets your attention fast.
Turns out the center nut that tights the brake assembly was loose by about a spin and a half!!!!
That could have caused some major damage.
Anywho the questions im getting at are:

1) Does anyone know the proper torque specs for the center 27mm nut that tightens the brake assembly. I want to make sure this doesn't come loose again

2) Do you think this coming loose a day or two after putting new rims on is not just a coincidence? Added pressure on the brake assembly from upgrading to 19" rims?

Any input appreciated.
Many mahaloz

The axel shaft hub nut is what I think you are after, the tourque is 304 to 336 Nm, be aware this is a single use nut, hope the wheels are not the problem

Default Thank you

Yes that would be the nut Rommel you called it. its coming off the axle & also holds up the brake assembly or at least when its loose so is the brake rotor/caliper
SO it appears that I am going to need to order that nut. Should I order a washer too? It looks like one is down in there. I hope the other nuts hold and don't become loose (finger crossed)
I have been putting off my rear shock job, perhaps the blown shocks in the back are putting pressure on the axle? I really dont know much about mechanics. Any help is appreciated. For the moment it appears I will be garaging the Jag

It makes sense now that that the axle shaft hub nut is a single use because I cant seem to get it tight enough to prevent it moving! I cant tighten it with wrench & socket at least, maybe with an impact gun(or so I thought till reading your post)... I was thinking about taking it to a service center & have them tighten that nut with an impact gun but now that you tell me its a single use nut I guess I shouldn't even bother?
Anyone know where I can find me this nut (&washer if there is one for it)... that is on the end of the axle shaft hub (when the wheel is off its right in the center of the brake assembly its a 27mm big nut
Thanks again Rommel
Many mahaloz everyone

I think your axle bearings may have come apart.

would it be the axle differential bearing ( http://www.theautopartsshop.com/sear...s&anoFollow=no )

or the rear wheel bearing set?
sorry I do not know.
Where would be the best place to start? Should I start by ordering the axle nut since it came loose? Or order bearings or both?
Thanks everyone

I would start by getting access to the hub bearings to inspect, be for you buy any thing ,remove cappiler and rota, handbrake assembly if your are going to do your rear shocks this is the time.
Jaguar do have a puller to remove the hub I havent done one for about 15 years if i recall I didnt need a puller
I see from your avatar that your ride is white, is it an xjr? or has the front apron been changed. reason I ask is that when I bought mine 8 years ago one of the master Jag techs said to me never change the wheel size on xjr's as it upsets the traction control and causes problems may be someone else can confirm or reject this idea

That listing is confusing but it looks like you'd want "rear wheel inner" and "rear wheel outer" along with the seals and nut. Some Jag specialists see an all-in-one kit, which is what I recommend you buy.

I agree that you should inspect the actual problem area before ordering parts, though.

Replacing the rear bearings is not a particularly easy job. Do you have a workshop manual for the car?

As long as all four are the same size I think it'll work OK. I changed wheel and tire size and haven't had problems.

My understanding, FWIW, is that the system works by comparing wheel speeds. If rear wheel speed suddenly increases versus front wheel speed, the system assumes the rear wheels have no traction and the system kicks in to reduce throttle.

Different sizes front-to-rear would cause a problem, yes.

Thank you very much Doug & Rommel. I appreciate your time very much.
@Rommel- No its just an Xj6 & since i've had it the front apron hasn't been changed but the previous owner could have. Well since the axle nut came loose & its a one use nut I might as well order that to start with to get the ball rolling... ill hold off on the bearings for now & shop around to see who has a complete kit to be had so I dont confuse my self more by ordering to many or too little parts.

@Doug- Sorry for the confusing listing, so i should start by inspecting bearings i take it.(Anything in particular I should be looking for?)
I also called Jaguar honolulu and they gave me prices 3-5 time more than websites, but thats expected--I mainly called them to find out exactly what I would need (inner bearing, inner seal & outer bearing, outer seal, locating collar & Axle nut)
before ordering anything I will be taking off the brake assembly and inspecting nut, collar, and bearings for wear? or to see if they came out of place?
thanks for all your help guys. I am in desperate need of coaching right now
