Default Odometer illumination.

Is there any fix for a dim odometer?
All the other dash lights work fine but the odometer is barely visible in daylight and completely blank at night.
Somebody mentioned changing bulbs but the display is LCD (like the clock) so I can't see that helping much.

The display is backlit by 2 bulbs. It could be that the LCD itself is failing, there is no cure for that aside from a new cluster.

Thanks.
Presumably, changing the bulbs is not a 5 minute job?
Is the mileage 'memory' stored in the cluster or elsewhere?

It's not too bad to do, but the cluster needs to come out. Mileage is stored in the cluster. Maybe not a 5 min job, but not an all afternoon job either.

Bring the steering column all the way down and aft and turn the large round knob to the Off position before removing key

There are 2 ribbon connectors on the very back

The mileage is stored

Removing the instrument cluster isnt a big job; 15 mins or so. Google for the procedure, but from memory 4 screws and 2 ribbon connectors to detach. Access to the bulbs is obvious thereafter, and I suspect that a blown bulb is all that is wrong. If it is the odometer unit, this is detachable from the cluster, and can be sourced separately.
