Default Power steering issue

Just replaced power steering pipe from rack to pump on my XJ6 1997. When I touch the steering wheel it goes to full lock on left violently. Any help would be appreciated.

Might be because of air/lack of fluid inside the lines or the rack, try to turn the steering by hand with cap off and fill fluid to level then start the car.

Hi, seems to have been air after all thankfully. Disconnected pipes from rack and bled them till fluid ran clear which seems to have done the trick. Not road tested yet but fingers crossed
Thanks again

Hi gordonreid2041,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

The easiest way to bleed the steering system (per the Jaguar Workshop Manuals) is to start the engine and turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock, back and forth, several times, until all the air is bled out of the system by the normal function of the hydraulic system. Check the fluid level and top it up if necessary. That has always worked for me.

Cheers,

Don
