Propshaft Alignment
They are really handy for visualising what has to happen.
Thank You! Am right in the middle of renovating front & rear suspension along with the driveshaft and half shafts on a 1995 XJ6. Now I need to figure out how to align the half shaft units.
Just wanted to say this thread is still a keeper in 2021. In my case it worked to re-index the differential side of the Jurid coupling. With one of my XJ's being a lifted Cherokee variety the lessons learned from it were also helpful. Mostly the concept that u-joints at the end of a shaft do not need to be straight but they have to have the same angle at each end. Glad that one of the more simple solutions worked. In my case too I will say that lining it up with the plumblines I had to not only move the center bearing full left, but also had to adjust the mounting crossmembers at both the transmission and the center mount. When I get round to replacing components I will definitely get the shaft re-balanced before reinstalling but for now I am happy with the solution and the smooth ride. Reading the TSB from earlier in the thread was also a great idea.
UPDATE!! So while re-indexing improved things it was not perfect. I dropped the center bearing cross member and immediately saw that the center bearing rubber was toast. It is interesting that you cannot really tell until you do this. More to come.
