That's an unusual response from a UK Jaguar Dealer. They normally need the VIN (and proof of ownership) to be able to lookup the radio code on the Direct Dealer Warranty System.
They will only be able to provide the code if it's the original radio or has had a replacement fitted by a Jaguar Dealer who will have recorded the change on the Direct Dealer Warranty System.

Agree with that. My car was originally sold in Belgium and when I called the dealership they asked for the last six digits of the VIN, then gave me the radio code. Unfortunately this was not the correct one, I guess my radio is a replacement or a previous owner had the code changed.

Belive me, when he said we dont go back that far, i was shocked, to say the least,i said to my self, what kind of an ad is that for Jaguar, now i went online, to jaguar radio codes, followed there instructions paid the £18 they asked, got an e/mail back saying there has been an error, could i contact them,i did, they said i would have to get the seriel number of the radio, and do it over when you get that, In the meantime she refunded my £18,I believe its the original radio, but im not 100% sure,i guess im going to have to get someone to take this radio out, as i dont know how. thanks for your reply.Originally Posted by GGG

Jim,
I seen several of these 'radio code' services advertised on eBay and never been entirely sure they aren't a scam. We haven't had anyone come back here with definite proof they deliver.
We have a forum member from Jaguar Customer Relationship Centre who may be able to get the code for you. Follow this link and post a request:

The worst she can say is 'no' but you could get the code for nothing.
