Question Rear window Sun shade for the X300?

So, it appears that there are two "hooks" in the headliner right above the rear window what I would assume are for a rear window Sun shade?

I know a rear Sun shade wasn't a factory option on the USA spec X300 XJR, but I wondered if perhaps it was a dealer option, or on the VDP, aftermarket, or available in other markets??

Anyone know if a factory/dealer rear Sun shade was available, or if there is/was an aftermarket unit?

I was looking into that but I've decided to get tinting done, car gets so darn hot and baked in the sun since I don't have a garage for it at the moment. Going with a lesser tint on the front windscreen as well.

Yeah, my rear window and all sides are tinted. And it does help quite a bit.

I'm not usually a fan of tint, but a previous owner had it done and it seems to be a high quality job at least.

But I'd like to still protect the rear deck and seats some more than the tint alone, and of course a lot of Sun comes in through the rear window given its angle.

Since the hooks are there, I thought it might be nice to find the shade.

And on that note, it looks like there was a factory option...

Not sure if this is a direct bolt-on for the X300, but it was for the XJ40. Clearly the "hook bar" wouldn't be needed on the X300, and not sure if the holes are there on the X300 deck, but it would be cool if this could be mounted with no modifications.

Anyone know if this is a direct fit for the X300?

And here's another one.... guess I should have "Googled" even longer...

Backlight glass sunblind - Jaguar-Shop.com

Says it won't mount when one has premium sound (subwoofer), but I bet one could make mounting spacers to clear the speaker.

If you have premium sound system there is a different shade that comes in LH and RH parts.

You can get a lot of information about these cars from the parts catalogue that is available on line.

That's a great find, b1mcp.

jaguarclassicparts.com is the parts service of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and is a great resource.

You can also download the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog from the "X300 'HOW TO' quick links" on the home page of this forum. Install the EPC on your computer and you can view the same information for models from the Series III through the X350 even when you don't have Internet access.

Cheers,

Don

Yeah, I had just dropped them an email. It may not be available anymore, but I bet one could modify the non-premium sound version with some spacers to lift it above the subwoofer grill.

I have removed my sunshade a couple of times to repair it. there are small white pins on each side that hold the end so the slide+spring wont come out of the metal case. these pins and the plastic attachments break very easily. I know that the underside has 3 moveable pins in a slide. Left, middle and right. These can be removed by removing one of the stop blocks at each end, very easy also. So in theorie you could replace these pins with a larger one and add spacers to lift it above the grill.

The pins are like a screw with a flat thin square head, that is hold in the slider.

my Daimler Six has the sunshade (one piece, std sound system).
I put big 66 1/2" spekers in my parcel shelf, and had the Daimler parcel shelf and blind removed, replaced with a 'plain' shelf out of an X300 Jaguar (no blind) which I was happy to cut holes in for the speakers.
I have the Daimler blind/shelf tucked away and it can be swapped back

BTW, picked up a pair of used rear shades from the UK, so now I'm researching how to install them. They don't seem that common on US cars interestingly as I had no luck finding any.

And yes, for "Premium Sound" equipped cars (with the rear package shelf sub-woofer), the shades/blinds are two parts, a LH and RH shade/blind.

The one-piece shade/blind only fits cars without the sub-woofer.
