Remote not working
The remote for my 1995 X300 has packed up, however some time ago I obtained another one from eBay. This is in excellent condition, however one minor problem being that it doesn't work with my car! I have tried the reprogramming procedure (valet switch etc) that I have successfully used on the now u/s remote a few times previously, but I can't get this new one to work at all. I am now suspecting that the reprogramming procedure is only for the correct remote for the individual car and that a different remote requires reprogramming at a dealer. Am I correct?
Any advice most welcome.
Thanks.
Edit. I have now read elsewhere on this forum that the remotes had different frequencies for the '95 & '97 models. Can anyone confirm this as it may explain that whatever I do I will never be able to reprogram this other remote I have?
Any advice most welcome.
Thanks.

Nevertheless Ken, thanks for the response.

Well I think I've solved the 'what frequency' question!
Removing the plastic cover of the remote, printed onto the printed circuit I have found the following:-
FM433.000 - 40.0001 - 11
I assume this refers to the FM frequency being 433. Problem is, this is the same on both remotes indicating they both operate on the 433 FM frequency. One used to work however and the newer 'good' one doesn't and will not successfully re-program either. So unless there is another difference between the 2, I don't know why it won't work , nor re-program like the old one did if they both operate on the same frequency!

I got lucky and snatched a remote out of a salvage yard and it worked perfectly!
but, no, there is no other difference to my knowledge other than the frequencies.
battery maybe? or perhaps program it into a different slot for memory, you know how it gives you the option to program separate remotes, maybe that has something to do with it?
When I did mine I just followed the procedure and the remote mated with the car on the first try.

Thanks Pancho & Ken. Like I've said, on occasions I used to have to reproram my old remote and the procedure always worked fine. With this new one however, it won't program. So I'm stuck for a solution, but will try what you suggest Pancho.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
I have the same problem with a x300 remote I bought off of Ebay. My car will not even go into learning mode, is this because I have a problem with my boot not being recognized as being open on the dash warning light. I can't open with the growler either I have to use the key.

Finally re' the key opening the boot, in my case when the doors are unlocked I can only open the boot either with the dash switch or by pressing the 'growler'. For some reason, the key doesn't open it! Think your problem (and/or mine?) may be something to do with valet switch, but don't really know. Think I should set aside an hour to try to understand the handbook on this!
sounds like the humdinger that switches the thing is out.
kidding,
theres a switch that recognizes when the trunk is closed/open, you've probably got damaged wires or loose perhaps, causing a loss of signal from the switch, and that may be impeding your progress as far as going into learning mode.
