Would appreciate any tips on this, my sunroof works perfectly but the roof paint is really bad and I am planning on painting it. There's a thin rubber seal around the sunroof panel. I can either mask this or remove the entire sunroof panel, take the seal off, hopefully reinstall it (would I need to replace it?) and put back in car.
Advantage of removal is also replacing the headliner material. Anyone who's done this info greatly appreciated
When I bought my car the sunroof panel had a ding in it and I removed it and had it repaired and repainted. I reused the seal and although a special tool is supposed to be used on the seal to fit it correctly I just squeezed all around the seal with multigrips and it has been quiet and water proof ever since.
With panel out it is a good chance to inspect the whole mechanism and service it where needed and as mentioned check the drains, one in each corner I believe. Access to the rear drains is difficult with the roof lining in place.
Also with the panel out refit the inner lining panel, with the mechanism in the tilt position, to see how it all goes together and when refitting the outer panel place the mechanism in the fully closed position and refit the panel and position it properly before you tighten the six screws.
Some pix for your enjoyment. In one of the pix you can see me pointing at part of the mechanism with a large silver coloured spring, well for the life of me I could not see what purpose this spring had other than to break the plastic drain channel fitting so I disconnected it and the sunroof operates just fine that way.
The inner trim panel can be removed, with the sunroof in the tilt position, by giving the trim panel a sharp tug rearwards.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Reason: New pic showing rear drains.
Shows the chrome and more modern than the original X300 plain / old teal color as that color shows her curves , she has slight hips curves ( from the earlier XJ6 series from a rear view ) , brought back original Jaguar designer after the boxed X40 ( X to 95 )
