Default Snow tires

With the upcoming winter and having 15 year old tires I think its time for a nice new set of winter tires for the season, the only problem is after searching through endless sites I can't seem to find any, so I figured I'd take to the forums as I do with most problems to see if anybody has a preferred snow tire that works well for the car

Standard size 225/60-16 rims? I have purchased from https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...inLoadRating=S

I like Michelin snows. They've been very quiet and comfy and performed well in winter driving on my 95 XJ6. I ran 15" XJ40 rims (Teardrop) so the tires were a bit cheaper.

I have used Michelins as well, although I currently have the X Ice and I'm disappointed in them. The grip isn't what I was expecting. The best ones I have had in terms of grip in snow were Goodyear Ultragrip. They have a new tire out now called the WinterCommand and the tread pattern looks similar. You'll have to judge if you mainly get ice or snow conditions, the Blizzaks are the gold standard for ice, but they wear quickly.

That being said, I still found my X300 nearly hopeless in winter, especially compared to my previous Series III sedan.

Well, perhaps the tires you have now are still being made by the MFG and if they have been good in the past perhaps a replacement set of the same? That being said there are a few tires made that I have used in the past on various vehicles that I must say did quite well in the snow. I will catch some heat when I suggest them but I have had excellent snow driving using Goodyear VIVA II and VIVA III tires. They are not a high mileage tire and may not even be available in the size you need. They may not even be in the same or better load rating that you need/require. I will say that those GY VIVA's on my vehicles that were 4X4 took them from needing to be in 4X mode at the slightest hint of snow to rarely ever having to go to 4X mode.

On my VDP I replaced the tires that I bought it with by finding the same tires. (mine had an alignment issue combined with having been run low on air from the PO) Those are Goodyear Eagle Sport All Season, I cannot attest to their capabilities in winter conditions (It would have to be snowing in July for me to find out lol) but for the rest of the driving season I do love the ride and handling in wet conditions. That being said I do know when I push her she has a tendency to go from under steer to over steer in a split second and from witness and video observations it is the side wall give that is the main culprit. Yes I could have bought tires better suited but I just try not to push her that hard.

I cringe at the thought of driving my VDP in the winter as she has never been out in the snow/salt season.

trust a Norwegian in this matter.. Most scandinavians drive around in deep snow several months every year. Nokian are excellent in snow and are very popular here. Best tires are of course the studded ones but they might not be legal in your country

blizzaks at 5/32 are basically good for burnouts and not much else

I am running the Nokian WR G4 because I don't see just snow, and run my tires year round. EXCELLENT tire year round, and do very well in snow/slush.

https://simpletire.com/nokian-225-60...5-tires?type=0

My previous tires were Michelin X-ice3 which were pretty good, and had great treadwear, but seemed to lose winter traction as soon as the top 1/4 tread was gone. Kind of scary for the second season. The Nokians were just as good in the snow first season, and are doing very well since then, but I am not sure how their second snow will do. Pushing the limit for proper snow depth at this point.

Decided to go with the goodyear wintercommands and got them studded, they look terrific but I can't ride on them until October. I will leave a review here for future reference, but I will say I'm super excited!
