Stalls - Trans Speed Sensor?
My 96 Vanden Plas stalls when I slow down to make a stop or turn a corner. I've been informed the speed sensor in the transmission is the problem, because it does not downshift properly causing the stall.
I've never heard of a transmission causing an engine to stall. The repair shop wants $5,000 for a remanufactured transmission.
The check engine light and trans "safe mode" light are on. The speedometer stops working right before the car stalls.
Have you ever heard of this problem/solution before?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. A counterintuitive but common cause of stalling when slowing for a stop or turn is low transmission fluid. My assumption is that the torque converter does not release properly, causing the engine to bog down and stall. Jaguar has issued a few TSBs on the subject, and checking the transmission fluid level is one of the first steps in the Limp Home Mode troubleshooting flowchart.
There are other potential causes, but that's the first I would check. Also, you should have the stored fault code or codes read. Most of the major auto parts chains will read them for free. Make a note of any codes and report them here.
You can also search this forum for "Limp Home Mode" to compare your symptoms with those others have faced and resolved.
Cheers,
Don

If the codes reveal a speed sensor failure, replacing the speed sensor is the cure. It is probably mounted in or on the valve body and should not require removal of the transmission.
I would avoid that repair shop in the future.

I'm the other side of I20. My Autoenginuity will not interface with my 95, but it might connect with your car. If you need some help with code reading, send me a PM with your phone#.
