Default Suspension advice

Hello my friends,

I noticed this morning my front tires had "feathered" wear. This might be due to alignment or suspension problem. I plan to replace the front struts (rear have been replaced), Front & Rear sway arm bushings and endlinks, new rubber, and get an alignment.

Anything else that I should take in consideration? Car has 165k now!

Thanks again for your help.

If you are planning a suspension refurbishment, you may wish to consider my uprated front sway bar drop links and uprated rear sway bar kit, that I am currently developing.

Hello Andy, fellow ex Jaguar engineer, are these compatible with the X308 also?

Cheers

There is a video posted on the X300 suspension rebuild that may help .

Rear A frame bushes are worth thinking about, and remember to align the gaps in the bushes correctly

The front anti-roll bar drop links changed between X300 and X308. X308 uses M10 lower fixings, whereas my drop links are designed for 7/16" fixings, so the X308 bolts would be a loose fit. If you told me the distance between centre lines, I could source the parts to make some metric drop links. According to the illustration on www.jaguarclassicparts.com the top fixing is captive in the drop link. If I made some metric drop links with an upper spherical bearing, you would need to source your own fixing, or I could supply it. I would also need you to confirm that it is also M10.

The rear wishbones on X308 up to VIN 776420 were the same part number as X300, so the connection point at one end of rear anti-roll bar kit are common. The rear wishbone tie to which the rear anti-roll bar mounts changed from MNA2855AD on X300 to MNA2855BD on X308 up to VIN 846051. I don't know the nature of the change but I think my set up will probably still work, because the brackets that carry the rear anti-roll bar (MNA3501AA) were the same between X300 and X308

Thank you!

I have full access to a lift so I can get those dimensions to you.

Was also wondering about the front upper wishbones on the X300 vs the X308: I like the X300 ones because apparently you can adjust castor (according to the manuals) with shims, but it seems different to the X308. I wonder how plausible it is to fit X300 upper wishbones to an X308? Or are the hard points and geometry totally different?

I think X300 and X308 front suspension are quite different. I use Jaguar Classic parts website to check part numbers and infer compatibility of different parts from that.

It is indeed possible to change castor, but not camber of X300 front suspension. I hope to come up with a way to change camber too.

Swallows Jaguar can supply camber adjustment plates. I've not had any experience with them myself though

PaulXJR6, thanks for the heads up for Swallows Jaguar, not interested in camber plates but the machined coil cover was quite nice. Personally I would rather have a machined Jaguar logo than the Swallow logo. The price even in pounds was reasonable. I had no idea that this was even available.
