Hopefully an easy question....how do the threshold plates attach? I don't want to force anything and break it. They look like they "snap" in place like my XJS.
The polished "Jaguar" piece is held on with double-sided tape, under which are screws which hold the aluminum threshold/sill in place.
The polished "Jaguar" piece is quite thin and can be bent/twisted easily, so I think many people consider them somewhat disposable if one needs to remove the sills. These polished pieces are still readily available for about $40 each. ....not unobtanium, but not cheap either if you need a couple or all four.
I think I've read that some have had success getting the polished piece off without damage with some mild heat (hairdryer) and then sawing fishing monofilament underneath to break the tape.
I think there may be a 'how to' thread or two here on the topic.
I've bought two of the polished pieces to replace two of mine that are dented/scratched, but just haven't gotten around to replacing them. I plan to try the monofilament method.

That's too bad. On our '93 XJ40 the treadplates or sill finishers are held in place by magnetic strips, so they're very easy to remove and replace.
Using fishing monofilament like a cheese cutter should work, but if not, ask a guitar-playing friend for an old high E or B string - music wire works great for sawing through double-sided tape.
That's interesting. I wonder if one could retrofit that by finding some magnetic tape. The only issue would be to fit something the tape would be drawn to since the sills are aluminum. If there isn't enough steel in/around the aluminum sill plates, I guess one could find a way to fit some steel or magnets in the sill itself.
It sure does seem silly that the polished inserts are made such that that they have to removed by near/potential destruction by fighting the tape.
Yes, the sills are aluminum, but the treadplates or sill finishers are steel. A strip of thin magnetic tape is adhered in the recess in the sill, and the treadplate just attaches to that magnetically:
Thanks guys. My rear one on my XJ6L got knackered today by a wicker chair I was taking to my daughters. The leg end cam down on the sill and dented it and lifted it in the corner, probably because they used that stupid foam tape in between which allowed the strip to give and dent.
