Timing Belt

Hey quick Q on timing belt for 95 XJR or any X300 I think. I drove a 95 XJR today and it was only the second owner from 50K miles. He replaced timing belt @ 60K miles as scheduled. Car has 107K miles now. Brand new tires/nrakes/rotors all the way around. How long are these timing belts good for? My 1990 Bimmer is supposed to be changed every 50K miles. Just wondering what the numbers were for on the XJR. The car was VERY solid. Everything worked cept the inside driver door handle couldnt be opened. And the ceiling was saggin a bit in the back. Other than the usual cupholder problem it was quite impressive and Im going back out Saturday to drive again and prolly make an offer! Any help with timing belt would be great though!

I may be wrong, but don't these engines have chains not belts? If so, having it changed at 50K miles is worrying!

i honestl dont know! I know its one or the other usually, ya either have a timing belt or timing chain right? I could be wrong on that one too as Im no motorhead. Im in the middle of research on this as we speak!

It's a timing chain. Nothing to worry about well into the 100K+ mileage range. Even then, I would wait until I heard some rattle. These are very solid.

The cupholder repair kit is about $121 and about the same for the interior door handle. Have a local headliner shop take care of the sagging carpet.

It's definitley a "Timing Chain" and you don't need to worry about changing it, I have to dig into mine soon because the timing chain tensioner has worn out and has given some play to the chain which make for the un-mistakable Jaguar growl when I start it and or give it gas.. The only parts in the timing chain area that should need to ever be replaced is the upper and lower tensioners and I have heard it's an medium skill fix.. My 95 XJ6 has 206k+ on her so I am gonna have a long hard look at the chain as well..
