VIN Help
Evening/Morning/Afternoon guys,
I was looking up my VIN code earlier and came across one peculiarity that I was hoping you all could help with:
SAJJ-Jaguar
P-XJR
A-Base
L-4 Door Saloon
F-4.0l SC
4-Auto LHD
B-?????
J-Emissions E
******-Serial Number of the car.
Any ideas what the B stands for? According to the X300 VIN breakdown it shouldnt be there. It should be a year designator.
It makes no difference in the real world, but I am a little intrigued now!

This came up a few weeks ago.
If you're a using a VIN decoder for "USA" (or at some point in time, Canadian) VINS, it would be the model year indicator. For other markets the VIN follows a different convention.
The only thing I could find for the "B" was in the shop manual:
"Model change B or R or S. 1995 MY"
I have no idea what that means but, if forced to guess, I think it represents trim level versus make change. For example, a USA XJ12 might have been built as a Daimler Double Six but badged as "Jaguar XJ12" for the North American market. Something like that.
Cheers
DD
