Default Water accumulates in the gas tank '95 VdP

About a year and a half ago I went to start in the morning and the car cranked forever but never coughed. Two tows and a whole bunch of money later they found that the gas tank had more water than gas.

The other day the same thing happened. Plus we had heavy rain a few days before. I reminded my mechanic of the old problem and sure as shootin' there was excess water in the gas.

I keep the car outside except when there's snow. Pine needles do tend to accumulate around the neck of the filler, just under the access flap. I'm pretty sure the drain is open.

Is this a common issue/ Is there somewhere I can look for a faulty seal or something?

Pretty sure? Um....that's not very reassuring !

It's common when the drain isn't 100% clear!

Pour a glass of water into the filler pocket. Your next steps will be dictated by how fast the water drains away.

Cheers
