Water in Gas tank concern??
Hello Everyone..
I have a basic question that i would like to ask as i am concerned about water getting into my gas tank. I drive a 97 XJ6L and the area where you put gas in the car is exposed to a lot of water while driving and sitting parked in the rain.
The area around the hole where you place the gas is recessed about 1.5" and when it rains heavily it fills up with water...Shouldn't there be a pin hole drain or something in that recessed area keeping water from building up around where the gas is placed in the car. When it rains i have to be very aware and actually placed a microfiber towel in the area so i can wring it out when it absorbs water.
Am i missing something completely or is this something i need to be aware of.
Thanks for the Help...

On my old XJ6C, XJ12 and XJS* I believe there was a drain hole with rubber tube attached in the gas cap well. These cars have been gone for quite some time so I can't inspect them for you, Have you looked really close. The drain may be covered over with junk. I remember having to blow them out with air from time to time.
*Not 100% sure on this one.

As Tarhealcracker says, on the cars previous to yours there was a drain hole with a rubber tube to take the water away. I remember them well on the '80 XJ6 I once had. Now I don't believe Jaguar design engineers would have put in a recess on the top deck without a drain. There will be a drain on your car, you just have to find it; its normally about 3/16" internal diameter. If you have muck in the recess, clear it out and poke around with a wooden stick or something to find it. As your recess is filling up, the drain is blocked, and will need unblocking with a piece of wire, or an air line..
